Welcome to the New Year, Bears!
CFD is the heart of the Leadership program at M-A. We are so proud of the work that we do, and incredibly grateful for the effort that the whole student body and Ecumenical Hunger put into it. We saw a huge push this year for our 27th annual--in student canning as well as in total monetary donations. It was competitive and also incredibly uniting, and we finished the drive with over 420,000 pounds of food, larger than any year prior.
The first-quarter committees in fourth period consisted of:
Staff Appreciation (Axel Pilette, Shawnak Shivakumar)
Theme days (Alessandra Hartwig and committee)
Lunchtime Events (Willow Basta and committee)
M-Asters (Evie Filipek, Sam Richman, and committee)
Homecoming (Liri Maoz, Ellie Dillon, and committee)
Rally (Mia Sanchez and committee)
The first-quarter committees in fifth period consisted of:
H20-lympics (Molly Gray and committee)
Custodial Appreciation (Mica Podoly and committee)
Drives (Viet-Tran Gemma and committee)
Trick Or Treat Street (Lila Weber, Gaelen Booth, and committee)
Powderpuff (Caroline Rose, Isabelle Habibi, and committee)
Pre-CFD (Aarii Keswani and committee)
Class Clash (Avery Williams and committee)
On Distribution Day (December 6th), students of M-A and members of the community gathered the 420,000 pounds of food to deliver to over 400 families, lending a hand up to over 2,100 people. After a month of hard work, lengthy shifts, and tens of thousands of canning slips, this day was incredibly rewarding and touching.
Over 400 students, teachers, alumni, and parents showed up to help distribute the hundreds of thousands of canned goods gathered. Not only was this possible with all the students who participated, but also with the help from all of our generous local stores. The PTA and the teachers who donated to this cause were very helpful, as well as our amazing and giving community.
As a program, we are so grateful for this opportunity yearly, and we are hopeful that in the years to come, we will be able to help even more families in times of need. With so much division in our country and the world, it is so important that we continue to help people in our community and use our positions and privileges for good. As December continued, Leadership spent time wrapping up each of our CFD-related committees and growing our relationships within the program. Ending the year with a gift exchange in both classes helped strengthen our community and got us excited to spend time with each other in the coming semester.
Again, we thank everyone who made the CFD possible, and we can't wait for next year. Get ready for our amazing third-quarter committees and events. Happy Holidays, Bears!
