As the end of the 2025 Canned Food Drive approaches, read all about what we have achieved as a class and what we hope to do with the support of all Bears after November!
Hello Canners! November is always a significant month for the M-A community, and especially for Leadership. All of us put a great deal of effort into organizing and promoting the Canned Food Drive, ensuring food for more than 600 families during the winter months. Though we are not solving hunger in any sense, we still try our hardest to make the holiday season brighter for families in our community.
This November, we have seen the most school-wide effort in the CFD by far. Walking into B-21 at any brunch or lunch this month, you would find at least ten students—most not even in Leadership—signing up on the Canning Wall. Additionally, there has been a huge influx of people donating and actually buying goods for the CFD while students are canning.
We reached our goal of 300,000 pounds of food on November 25th. This is more than we got even at the end of the entire drive last year, where we totaled out at 260,421. And still, students this year are continuing to can, donate, and work hard to help our community.
We are so grateful that we, as a leadership program, can put on such a unifying and hopefully impactful event. I think all of us students can agree that canning and gathering goods for people in need over the course of a couple of weeks is some of the most fulfilling and enjoyable work we have ever done. The only thing that beats that feeling is Distribution Day. Seeing the smiles on families' faces and being able to directly help someone’s life and well-being is a type of joy that can’t be found in much else.
D-Day is on December 6th–THIS SATURDAY! Bring your friends and your best attitude around 8:30 at Ecumenical Hunger in East Palo Alto. We can’t wait to see you there, Bears.
